Westwood College Graduate Receives National Award on Capitol Hill
Anaheim Alumni Henry Lopez earns CCA's 2008 GREAT Award for outstanding academic and personal performance
Denver, Colo. (April 11, 2008) - Westwood College today announced that one of its graduates from the Anaheim, Calif. campus, Henry Lopez, received the Career College Association (CCA) 2008 GREAT (Graduate Recognition for Excellence, Achievement and Talent) Award at a ceremony on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
"It is a great honor to have one of our graduates recognized at the national level with such a prestigious award," said George Burnett, CEO of Westwood College. "Our students are our lifeblood; and Henry's achievements are a testament to our commitment to quality education at Westwood College."
The GREAT Award recognizes career college graduates who excel academically or have extraordinary talent in their field of study and who may have also overcome great odds to achieve their educational dreams.
Following high school, Lopez enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. While serving his country, Lopez was injured in the line of duty and awarded the Purple Heart. In 2004, Lopez was discharged and enrolled in the visual arts program at Westwood College.
As a student, Lopez earned a 4.0 GPA and served as class valedictorian. He tutored and mentored other students and supported his community by redesigning a local Cub Scouts' Web site. Since graduating, Lopez has worked as a graphic designer for Amada America Inc.
CCA created the GREAT Awards to highlight the achievements and accomplishments of truly outstanding graduates of career colleges. This year's four winners were chosen from over 100 entries.
