Courses in Automotive Technology

Auto technology students learn automobile diagnostics and repair in a 7,000 square foot automotive shop. The Automotive Technology Department also has three classrooms for audio-visual demonstrations and lectures. Automobile repair classes offered at Westwood College are hands-on, helping to prepare students for the challenges they may face in the auto technology industry.

Automobile repair classes at Westwood College include Automotive Electricity, Automotive Engine Rebuilding, Manual Transmissions and Drive Trains, Automotive Brake Systems, and many more. In these courses, students practice the automobile diagnostics and repair that they may later encounter in the workplace. Students learn and practice on industry-standard equipment, keeping their training up-to-date and relevant for the auto repair industry.

In Automotive Engine Rebuilding students get comprehensive coverage of engine design, operation and structure. Students not only receive instruction, but they perform actual engine diagnosis and repair according to manufacturers’ specifications and procedures. A actual, working vehicle is provided, on which the students work and learn. Each student will remove, rebuild and reinstall the engine. This is just one of many hands-on automobile repair classes offered at Westwood College. This sort of auto technology class truly mirrors a real work environment and helps prepare students for potential careers.

Westwood College’s automotive shop is furnished with up-to-date equipment for students to use. There is both computerized diagnostic equipment and computerized alignment equipment in the shop to help train students in auto technology.
